VIDEO (silent): 300th Mission, Sept. 13th, 1944, Lecce, Italy
This is a National Archives video of the 98th Bombardment Group's 300th mission, which occured September 13, 1944, to bomb the Aviso Aqueduct in Italy. I've added the mission reports for all four squadrons to assist in identifying aircraft.
Based on the mission report, I believe the first B-24 taking off is my Grandfather's plane, No. 526-(Green) L. It is also the aircraft that lands and is interviewed, although there's no shot of my grandfather in the series. The citiation for the Oak Leaf Cluster he was awarded for this mission is also included.
